Disclosures and Fees
TIPS TO AVOID FEES
Let’s face it, nobody likes paying unnecessary fees. And we don’t want to charge unnecessary fees. Although there are some fees that cannot be avoided when you choose to use a particular product or service, there are ways to avoid or reduce some fees altogether. You may be able to reduce or eliminate some fees with our Member Rewards Program. Here are some additional helpful tips for the most common fees:
ATM SURCHARGE
You can obtain cash without surcharge fees at any VSECU ATM or CO-OP ATM in the U.S. These ATMs are owned by credit unions and no fee is imposed.
OVERDRAFT
Keep an accurate record of your checking account to avoid overdrawing your checking account and getting charged with these fees.
EXCESSIVE WITHDRAWAL
You can avoid this fee by making sure you don’t use your savings account as a transaction account. Try to keep monthly transactions to less than six per month.
STATEMENTS/CHECKS
If you sign up for online access and enroll in e-Statements you can download a copy of your statement or a copy of a check yourself and print it at home or work.
DISCLOSURES
UNDERSTANDING ATM FEES
We will not charge you a fee when you use your VSECU ATM card, whether or not you are using your card at an ATM within our network. However, non-VSECU ATM owners will assess a surcharge fee for use of their ATM. To limit surcharge fees, you can avoid using non-VSECU ATMs and ask for cash back when you use your debit card at the grocery store or at other retail outlets. There may be a dollar limit on the amount of cash back you are able to receive from the retailer and some retailers may charge a fee, but cash back fees are generally a lot lower than surcharge fees charged by an ATM owner. You can also obtain cash without surcharge fees at any CO-OP ATM in the United States. These ATMs are owned by credit unions and no fee is imposed for use. Additionally, ATM surcharge rebates are available for Advantage and Advantage Plus members.
ATM | Foreign ATM Fee | Surcharge Fee |
---|---|---|
Using a VSECU ATM | No fee when using a VSECU card. | No fee when using a VSECU card. |
Using a Non-VSECU ATM | No fee when using a VSECU card. | Surcharge fees are assessed by ATM owner. No surcharge fee at CO-OP ATM locations. Plus, we will rebate up to $8 per month in surcharge fees from all other ATMs based on overall relationship with VSECU. |
UNDERSTANDING ACCOUNT FEES
Account fees are assessed when unfavorable transactions occur on your accounts. These fees are assessed to cover any costs due to VSECU and/or are associated with additional account maintenance resulting from the transaction. Assessing these fees on an individual basis allows us to continue to return the best rates to the membership as a whole. You may be able to reduce or eliminate some fees with our Member Rewards Program.
